Rotary Shaft Seals

Rotary seals and Shaft Seals are regularly used in components where there are oscillating or rotating parts. This simple component keeps the lubrication fluid in while preventing the ingress of unwanted material such as mud and fluids such as water. This type of seal is used in thousands of applications with oils and greases of all types and the basic idea was so good, it remains fundamentally unchanged for over 100 years, when and idea works it works!

Many applications require the standard Nitrile rubber coating (NBR) but we can also offer in other materials for applications where there may be higher temperature, harsher chemical resistance or food grade such as Viton, Silicone or PTFE and for more specialist applications there are many other materials available to solve almost any issue you may encounter.

We use a nomenclature to describe the basic types of which our standard stocked parts are the R21 and R23:

R1 - Totally enclosed with a leather or rubber lip
R4 - Uncoated case with rubber spring lip
R6 - Uncoated case with rubber spring lip and wiper
R21 - Coated case with rubber spring lip
R22 - Coated case with two rubber spring lips
R23 - Coated case with rubber spring lip and wiper
R25 - Coated case with rubber unsprung lip

Shaft Repair Sleeves

This thin-walled sleeve is simply pushed over the worn area of the shaft, providing a counter-face surface that has been optimised for use with radial seals. No shaft disassembly or machining involved and costly downtime is minimised. Since the same sized seal as the original can be used, there is no need to search for other seals, or keep a stock of different sizes.

No special equipment is required since the installation tool is supplied with the sleeve. A mallet and a pair of pliers are all that is needed to complete the installation.

Mechanical Seals

A mechanical seal is used as a way to contain a fluid within any type of vessel where a rotating shaft passes through a stationary housing. Mechanical seals are often made up of several components with the design, arrangement and materials of construction determined by the pressure, rotational speed, temperature and product being sealed, the seal can even seal against gases and harsh chemicals.

Whilst gland packing offers an excellent way of sealing fluids where seepage is not an issue, a mechanical seal gives a zero tolerance to fluid leakage in applications where this is critical such as food and chemical industry.

O'Rings and O'ring Cord

An O'ring, is a mechanical gasket, it is basically a loop of elastomer with a round cross-section, designed to be seated in a groove and compressed between two or more parts, creating a seal at the interface and can be used in stationary or dynamic applications. Available in a huge range of sizes (metric and imperial) and elastomers to suit almost any application.

O'ring cord basically open ended lengths of o'ring material and has numerous applications. Supplied in metric and imperial diameters and assorted elastomers and dependant on elastomer can be bonded to create o'rings.
